MCST 8 and Under Invitational
Rankin Aquatic Center, Martinez
Start: 8:30 AM
Warm-up: 7:50 PM
End: 11:30 AM
(estimated)
Warmups from 7:50-8:00 am in Lanes 5-8 This is an Open Invitational meets are open to all Seal swimmers within the age range. Invitationals involve several teams. Once a swimmer is registered to swim in an Invitational meet, and the meet entries have been submitted to the hosting team, Coaches cannot make changes to the swimmer’s entries.. Work signups will open prior to the Invitational, or a schedule may be created by the Work Coordinator. If you have a conflict, you may trade work assignments with another family, with their agreement. If you need assistance, contact the Work Coordinator, not the coaches. In the past the Seals have received donations that we have used to sponsor the swimmers fees for invitationals. This varies from year to year and will be communicated when signups open. If you sign up your swimmer for an Invitational meet and your swimmer fails to swim in the meet, your family is still responsible for the cost of the swimmer’s entries (if the meet is not sponsored), including the full cost of any relay event in which they have been entered. Please note that Time Trials, Invitational meets and Blue and Gold do not count towards the volunteer work credits. We need all families to attend and work Time Trials (introduction/training to swim meets). Also, all families who sign up their swimmer(s) for Invitationals are required to work the meet and will be automatically assigned a job. |

DIVISIONS There will be three divisions in the meet. Teams will be entered in a division based on the number of entries in the meet. Team competition will be within the respective divisions only. ENTRIES Each contestant may enter two individual events for which he or she qualifies. The Individual Medley is considered one individual event. Each contestant may also swim in both relays, in addition to the individual events entered. Each team may enter 2 relay teams per event. Individual relay swimmers need not have met a County qualifying time. Entries are due by 5pm on Mon. July 29th and must be submitted electronically to: [email protected] FEES The fees for the 2024 Contra Costa County Championship Swim Meet are as follows: Swimmer Entry (“Splash Fee”): $15.00 per swimmer Individual Event Fee: $15.00 per individual event Relay Fee for each Relay: $30.00 per relay RULES Current USA rules will govern strokes, turns, starts, finishes, etc., with compliance enforced by the referees, starters, and stroke and turn judges. For ages 9 and up, “Flyover” starts will be used during trials. Coaches will be reminded of this at the coaches’ meeting both days. SWIMSUITS We will be following all USA Swimming suit guidelines, including the tech-suit restrictions for 12 & under swimmers. AWARDS Participation Bag-tags Commemorative bag-tags for every swimmer who qualifies for an individual event Individual Awards Medals for 1st through 10th place in the final heat Rosette ribbons for 11th through 20th place in the consolation heat Relays Medals for 1st through 10th places Record Holders Record holder awards for individuals and relay teams that set a new standing meet record High Point Swimmer One boy and one girl in each age group will be selected for this award, based upon points earned in individual events. Outstanding Relay One boys’ team and one girls’ team will be selected for this award, based upon performance relative to meet records, expressed as a percentage. Division Winners Team trophies for 1st through 3rd place, based upon points earned. AWARDS DISTRIBUTION All awards must be picked up by a team representative during the meet. Specific time and location for pickup will be given during the meet. High Point Swimmer awards, Outstanding Relay awards, and Division Team trophies will be presented during an awards ceremony at the conclusion of Sunday’s events. PRELIMINARY HEATS AND FINALS Individual Events Preliminary heats will be held for all individual events except for the IM, which will be timed finals. The top 10 swimmers in each individual event will then participate in the Championship Finals for 1st through 10th place. Swimmers who finish in 11th through 20th place will compete in the Consolation Finals held immediately before the Championship Finals of the event. All finalists, including relays and alternates, must check in at the Clerk of the Course for their finals’ events. Relays Medley Relay timed finals will be at the beginning of the finals session on Saturday (immediately following the first event which is 15-18 50 Free finals), Free Relay timed finals will be the first event of the finals session on Sunday. Names of 4 swimmers in each relay must be submitted with your team entries. These do not have to be the actual swimmers who end up competing on that relay; however, any possible relay swimmer must be on your team roster and meet all County eligibility requirements. Swimmers can only be entered in one relay per event, meaning the same swimmer may not swim on both an “A” and a “B” relay. ORDER OF EVENTS SCRATCHES Scratches in preliminary heats are allowed and do not need to be reported to the desk; no replacements are allowed. Scratching from an event does not disqualify a swimmer from other events in the meet. In the finals session, if a swimmer scratches/no-shows for the consolation final, the 1st alternate will swim in their place. In the championship final, if a swimmer scratches/no-shows, no alternate swimmers will be entered, the lane will be empty. CLERK OF THE COURSE Every swimmer must check in and be seated at the Clerk of the Course prior to swimming their event. We use a double check in procedure. All swimmers must check in at the entrance desk of the Clerk and all swimmers must be in their chairs as the heat is released to the blocks. If a swimmer is not seated in their chair immediately prior to being released to the blocks, they will be scratched from the event. This is the same procedure for trials, finals, and relays. Coaches or parents should make sure all swimmers arrive at the Clerk of the Course on time. Only swimmers and meet officials will be allowed inside the Clerk of the Course. WARM-UPS Open warm-up for all teams: Sat. & Sun. 7:15-8:30am Open to all swimmers 8:30-8:50am Open to 8&under swimmers only During the lunch break both days, there will be a minimum of 45 minutes for warm-ups. For families who have never attended an invitational or League Meet before, the check in process is a little different than for regular dual meets. Swimmers must check in for their swim about 15-20 minutes before their event at Clerk of the Course (see team camp map). This means you must be aware of who is currently swimming so you can get your swimmer to Clerk at the appropriate time. The volunteer parents at Clerk will then guide your swimmer into rows of chairs and have them sit, in order, with their heat, until it is their turn to swim. Parents are not allowed past the check in table at Clerk of the Course (but if you have little ones, you can stand outside the roped off chair area so you can still easily see them). When it is their turn to swim, the volunteer parents will then guide the swimmers onto the pool deck and get them to the appropriate lane to swim their event. Volunteer Assignments: ALL FAMILIES will be assigned a volunteer job at the League meet. Assignments for volunteer jobs will be sent out shortly. You must check in for your volunteer job with Carissa Poehnert or Rachelle Reyes once you arrive at camp. All no shows or cancellations will be fined. We do not need your money, we need the help! Please come and work your assigned shift for the swimmers!! The volunteer check in area will be towards the front of the PS camp.
Swim Marshalls: A friendly reminder regarding safety at League Meet: Parents, please respect the Marshalls at the meet. The Marshalls are parent volunteers placed throughout the meet so that the swimmers can get to/from the blocks in a timely and safe manner. They direct parent traffic so that all parents enter and exit the pool deck in one direction. They are also stationed in fire lanes and by the bleachers to ensure that no one is standing in front of the bleachers impeding vision of those in the bleachers. Parents are not allowed behind the blocks and no photos behind the blocks (if you are timing, no phones are allowed). Please treat the Marshalls with respect and understand that they are just completing their assigned job. |
