2019 Board member vote

HI team, It’s that time of year again. We are in need of new board members, we put out the word and we have collected 4 great candidates to join the board! Unfortunately we only have room for 3, attached are some of the candidate's statements and a link to vote. Please vote for 3 candidates that you feel would be a good fit for the new board.

    Candidate #1 Lynn Phan

Hi, my name is Lynn Phan and I am Eli and Augie’s mom. We have been a part of the Seals for the past 4 seasons. As the Work Coordinator, I got to personally know many families who then became our friends. My kids became better swimmers under the awesome coaching staff. We love being a part of the team and that’s why I would like to join the Seals Board- to meaningfully contribute towards helping our team grow and succeed. It takes a lot of work to make the season run smoothly and I am ready to put in that energy. My kids get so much out of being a part of this community and I’d like the opportunity to give back just as much. Thanks for your consideration and Go Seals!

    Candidate #2 Brett Whitmarsh

Hi, my name is Brett Whitmarsh. My family and I have been involved with the Seals Swim Team for the last 8 years, Elisa who is now 15 and Alina who is 12. I think the Seals Swim Team is a valuable community asset and we have gotten so much from the team that it’s time to give a little back.

I’ve been involved with the Ellerhorst Dad’s Club for the past 9 years. I was president for 2 of those years and have held various positions during that time. I chaired and ran the annual pasta feed for 3 years, helped on various fundraiser and performed many odd jobs around the school. Definitely know what it takes to keep an organization growing.

I look forward to contributing to the growth and help support the Seals Swim Team.

Candidate #3 Jennifer Basye - No statement at this time.

    Candidate #4 Paul Driver

Hello my name is Paul Driver Sr. I am writing this candidate statement to show my desire to participate with the Pinole Seals Swim Club as a Board Member. Since 1995, I have lived in the Pinole area with my family. My ties to the area are nothing more than a desire to help make sure that my children their current and future friends’ have great opportunities to be self-sufficient adults. I have had different jobs from accounting to construction, which have tested any expertise I may have thought I have had. For the last 13 year, I have worked for the California Department of Transportation in the bridge maintenance department.

I have been blessed to see how hard work pays off by receiving an athletic scholarship and undergraduate education from the University of Oregon. There I played college football and had the opportunity to extend beyond the college arena for a taste professional. After college, I have managed sport facilities while simultaneously coaching various sports at grade school and recreational club levels. I really feel I do understand what it means to be a part of an organization as a positive contributor.

This last swim season with the Seals Swim Club became something that my children and I really enjoyed. Our participation in team events gave us great opportunities for us to see Pinole and surrounding area families working together. This family involvement insured a wonderful time for our swimmers to compete without noticing any hiccups, which may or may not have occurred along the way. I feel it would be foolish of me not to want to continue to be a part of that type environment.

I would like to share some points that will allow me to be a positive influence as a board member with the Pinole Seals Swim Club.

    * I will stay informed about what's going on with the Pinole Seals Swim Club and development in fields relevant to the Club.

    * I will encourage, enable, and respect the participation and contributions of fellow board members.

    * I will work in good faith with staff and other board members as partners toward achieving our club goals.

*Play an active role in fundraising for the Club.

*If I don't fulfill these commitments to the club, I will expect the board chair to communicate with me and discuss my responsibilities with me.

    * I will maintain the confidentiality of board deliberations and will publicly support the decisions of the board, including those with which I might have been in disagreement.

Lastly in line with my previous shared points. I, Paul Driver Sr., understand that if excepted as a Pinole Seals Swim Club member of the Board, I have a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure that the our club does the best work possible in pursuit of its goals. I believe in the purpose and the mission of the club, and I will act responsibly and prudently as its steward.
